While studying the insect collection of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle of Paris, France, Sydney Brannoch, a Ph.D. student working at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History uncovered a small, leaf-dwelling praying mantis with unique features collected from Madagascar in 2001. Its distinctive “horned neck” and flattened, cone-like eyes, as well as the location from where it was found, led researchers to assign the insect to a new genus and species. The study was published today in the open-access journa lZooKeys.
