Manish Sarkar, currently a PhD candidate in the Abbott lab, was awarded the Trailblazing Diversity and Inclusion Award by the Ecological Society of America in Salt Lake City, Utah this past July.
As a theoretical ecologist, he uses mathematical and computational models to investigate ecological questions and better understand the mechanisms that shape natural systems. His dissertation research is broadly on understanding competition and facilitation-mediated coexistence in ecological communities.
