Study Abroad Feature: INDIA 2025

Lecturer Priyusha Pokala led a group of nine students to Hyderabad, India as part of her BIOL 309 – Field Studies course, where they conducted research on the following projects:

  • Investigating the antimicrobial effects of plant extracts on multidrug-resistant bacteria.
  • Evaluating the antimicrobial properties of green-synthesized nanoparticles against multidrug-resistant bacteria.
  • Evaluation of antimicrobial activity of nano-based formulations of antibiotics
  • Exploring exopolysaccharide-mediated heavy metal removal from soil

As part of their experience, the group was introduced to the traditional Unani medicinal system, deepening their understanding of the significance and potential of herbal plant extracts.

One student commented on the most rewarding aspect of international study : “Learning about the different practices and priorities between Indian labs and American labs. While we prioritize speed and convenience, the labs at SFC prioritize sustainability and work/life balance.”
