This past Saturday, September 28th, the new biology teaching labs located in the Dental Research Building were officially unveiled with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by President Eric Kaler alongside Deputy Provost Lee Thompson and CAS Dean Peter Whiting. Members of the department gave brief tours of each of the new lab spaces, which will help the department better accommodate undergraduate students in the department as well as align with educational goals in biology.

“The new teaching laboratories will greatly expand our ability to teach cutting-edge laboratory classes,” said Department of Biology Chair Mike Benard. “This new facility has state-of-the-art equipment in specialized classrooms, including a microscope facility, a teaching instrumentation laboratory, a dedicated microbiology classroom, an augmented reality Microsoft HoloLens classroom and computational space, an aquarium facility for raising aquatic life, and a student resource room.”

These new labs are already in use for the Fall 2024 semester, and use of the space will continue to increase as we settle in.
